Bosque del Apache Early Color

BERNARD MARKS WROTE ABOUT THIS LANDSCAPE PAINTING, “BOSQUE DEL APACHE EARLY COLOR”:

Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge in central New Mexico, south of Albuquerque, is a world-famous haven for birds and a sanctuary for wild creatures of all kinds. It’s also a favorite of bird watchers, photographers, and painters. The wetlands in particular attract huge flocks of wintering cranes and geese and, throughout the year, waterfowl, shorebirds, and birds of prey. Martha and I have spent many delightful hours here together, each of us practicing the art form that we most enjoy.

While the wetlands have a remarkably serene splendor, the upland areas that surround the water are beautiful, too. On this trip, the autumn color was just beginning to emerge. That transitional season was what inspired me to paint “Bosque del Apache Early Color” in the way I did.

MARTHA MARKS NOTES: In all, 4 of Bernie’s beautiful paintings from Bosque del Apache are featured on this website: Bosque del Apache,” “Bosque del Apache Early Color,” “Ducks in the Marsh at Bosque del Apache,” and Sandhill Cranes at Bosque del Apache.”
