Canyonlands

BERNARD MARKS WROTE ABOUT CANYONLANDS, HIS REMARKABLE WATERCOLOR FROM CANYONLANDS NATIONAL PARK:

Canyonlands National Park, one of the finest natural gems of the generally spectacular southern Utah, encompasses the Colorado Plateau and two large rivers. Over millions of years, the Colorado River, the Green River, and their tributaries carved this otherwise-barren plateau into countless canyons, mesas and buttes. Cutting through layered sandstone, the rivers left a landscape of stark beauty. It’s hard to describe. Only those who have been there, right at this same spot shown in the painting, can truly appreciate it.

Truly, “Canyonlands” is an apt name for this amazing national park.

I’ve made several watercolors of the Colorado Plateau from this same viewpoint and others, including the one shown here.

MARTHA MARKS ADDS:

It’s true, as Bernie wrote, that he painted this vista several times. Unfortunately, this is the only one that remains as a digital photo excellent enough to produce equally excellent prints. But still… it’s lucky we do have that and now can offer excellent giclée prints of it.

I’ll note, too, that this was the very first painting that Bernie ever sold from a gallery in Santa Fe… which surely says something in itself.

Excellent custom-made giclée prints on thick matte archival paper are available.
