Capitol Reef Contours

“Capitol Reef Contours” captures as well as I know how to do it all the brilliant colors, crisp lines, and dramatic angles of Capitol Reef National Park in Utah.
I made a plein air watercolor in the cool shade of the cliffs as the sun poured into the canyon. Meanwhile, Martha prowled around on foot, shooting the remarkable arches, layers, and tucked-away corners of the area. Later, using my sketches and her photos, I redid my original study into this big acrylic piece.
