Horse Country

In my travels around the western United States, I’ve seen countless places like this. There’s the old, faded barn. The lean rancher. The rough-hewn wooden fence. The stacked-up bales of hay. The distant buttes and mesas. And, of course, the horses. The horse is still as essential in this part of America as it was two hundred years ago.

I stopped for a few sketches and photos beside this southern Utah ranch, and later, back in my Santa Fe studio, turned them into this painting of a timeless scene.

The original painting was sold to a private collector by an art gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
