I painted this watercolor at the White Rock Overlook near Los Alamos, New Mexico. This view offers a unique panorama of mesas, which are common landscape features in this spectacularly beautiful state. A mesa (Spanish for “table”) is an elevated area of land with a flat top and steep sides.

The river running through the canyon below those mesas is the Río Grande. The mountains in the background are the Sangre de Cristo range.

The original painting was sold to a private collector by an art gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
