Ogden River Valley

The plein air (outdoor) study for this painting began one chilly October morning in the Ogden River Valley of northern Utah. I crawled out of bed in our camper just as the first hints of light were appearing on the rocky peaks of the Wasatch Range and set off for an especially colorful, east-facing mountainside I’d noted the day before.

As the sun rose, it brought warmth and hope for even more warmth. Eventually, the light triumphed over the darkness, and as the sun filled the valley once again, the beauty of the autumn colors emerged.

Back in my Santa Fe studio, I turned that study into this oil painting.
