Rain Enters the Grand Canyon

BERNARD MARKS WROTE ABOUT HIS GENTLE WATERCOLOR PAINTING “RAIN ENTERS THE GRAND CANYON”:

The first time that Martha and I visited the Grand Canyon in the ’80s, it literally took our breath away. Hard to explain now the emotion we felt standing there on the edge of the rim. The only thing I clearly recall is that Martha wrapped her left arm around my waist and I draped my right arm over her shoulder as we stood wordlessly absorbing its one-of-a-kind beauty.

Since that initial visit, we’ve returned over and over. I’ve painted it in every season and from both north and south rims. Each time is a challenge, because the landscape is so vast and complex, and weather and light conditions are always changing.

The day I made “Rain Enters the Grand Canyon” was different from all others I had previously been there. This painting reflects what I saw moving across the horizon.

This “Little Gem” giclée print on thick archival paper comes with a custom-cut white mat that fits into a standard 11″ x 14″ frame.
