I painted this bullet-shaped, thousand-feet-high peak known as Shuntavi Butte on the spot. The magical late-evening light brought out the sculpted forms of the Kolob Canyons area in the northwest part of Zion National Park.
The isolated Kolob Canyons area does not get as many visitors as the park’s main canyon does, but its sculpted cliffs and forested plateaus are equally spectacular.
The original watercolor painting was sold to a private collector by an art gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
