The Persistence of Beauty

Spring is a special time in Saguaro National Park, which is located in Arizona’s Sonoran Desert. It’s when the cacti bloom. Cacti represent the rugged determination of life to exist in a hostile environment.

This oil painting is a study in contrasts. An old Saguaro cactus has died and fallen. Yet beauty persists in this rugged, dry land in the form of delicate flowers rising among the thorns of a prickly pear.
