BERNARD MARKS WROTE ABOUT HIS MAGNIFICENT “WINTER MORNING AT YAVAPAI POINT”:
I made field studies and photos for “Winter Morning at Yavapai Point” on a brutally cold day on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. That specific location offers one of the best panoramas of this amazing national park. My goal was to capture the morning light at its best, when shadows were not too harsh, so the subtleties in the detail could be seen.
This is the largest oil painting I’ve ever made and the second-largest overall. I’m very proud of it.

Bernie didn’t mention it above, but for well over a decade he held “Winter Morning at Yavapai Point” back from sale at his gallery and other art outlets. Instead, he hung it over the desk in his study and kept it for himself to enjoy. Now that he’s gone, I’ve decided to make this splendid piece available for others to love as much as he did.
