A Touch of Winter
MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS EXQUISITE “A TOUCH OF WINTER” OIL PAINTING:
“A Touch of Winter” was Bernie’s last completed painting. I didn’t even see it until after he died, when I was clearing out his studio. But it was no surprise to find that he’d produced yet another fabulous view of the Grand Canyon, because that was absolutely his favorite subject.
Together, we visited Grand Canyon National Park at least a dozen times. We experienced it in every season and weather conditon. We were there at dawn and dusk, in storms and bright sunshine. We were lucky enough to catch rainbows in the canyon on several occasions.
Since this was one of the places Bernie most loved, it makes me happy to know he painted it one last time from his many photos, plein air sketches, and memories. I’m proud to display his gorgeous “A Touch of Winter” here. Until now, nobody outside our family had seen it.
