MARTHA MARKS WRITES:

BERNIE DELIGHTED IN PAINTING FIGURES, both humans and animals. Some might say he was a natural at it, but I know how hard he worked to perfect his techniques. In the 1990s, while we were living in the northern suburbs of Chicago, he took several figure- and portrait-painting workshops. Usually, he was the only one painting in watercolor.

Many of his watercolor portraits were done on commission and thus were never available for further distribution. “The Editor” was a model at one of the workshops Bernie attended. It’s shown here just as an illustration, not for sale.

Most of Bernie’s original watercolors that featured figures — like “Jewelry Sellers on the Plaza” — were sold through Lennon Fine Art in Santa Fe around 2005-2007. The few originals available on this site — like “Heading for High Camp” — have been in our family for years. I’m happy to offer them now to others who will love them as much as I do.

I hope you’ll enjoy Bernie’s marvelous figures… people and animals; children and adults; Chicago, Santa Fe, and elsewhere.

Please read these Important Notes about the prints we sell and the way Bernie’s paintings look to you on this website.
