Autumn Walk
MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS’ GLOWING SCENE FROM THE SANTA FE RIVER, “AUTUMN WALK”:
“Autumn Walk” is Bernie’s watercolor version of a real, fairly common, and fast-moving scene that we saw on the Santa Fe River at the height of fall color. We were walking together along the trail that follows the Santa Fe River for many blocks. As usual, he carried his sketch pad and I had my camera. Lots of other people were on the path, too, but this couple with their dogs were by far the most interesting.
“Let’s get it,” Bernie said, and I knew exactly what he meant.
Right away, we stepped off the path and began doing what we always did. He made a few fast sketches and I snapped a few fast photos. Later that day, at home in his studio, he turned our sketches and photos into this painting. We both liked it, knew it was a winner, and felt good about our artistic teamwork to make it happen.
A few months later, after winter had settled in, Bernie turned “Autumn Walk” into a more-polished acrylic painting. That original painting, which he called “Dog Walk on a Golden Day,” is available through this website. It’s a clear winner, too.
After “Dog Walk on a Golden Day” was finished, he allowed his gallery to sell this original watercolor version, “Autumn Walk.” Not surprisingly, somebody bought it right away.
Both luminous paintings show a common sight along the Santa Fe River at the height of fall color.
