In the 1970s and early ’80s, Bernie and I made several trips to Mexico and Central America. He painted everywhere we went, and always came home with a variety of small plein air watercolors like this. He sold most of them at art fairs, but he held this one back. He never framed it, just kept it safely protected in a portfolio. I think he believed it was special, which it was.

I still have it, and it’s still special. I’ve had it professional photographed, so I can have top-quality giclée prints made of it, including in sizes larger than the original.
