Here’s another one of Bernie’s many breathtakingly beautiful works from the Grand Canyon. I can’t even begin to count the number of days we spent there together as he created stunning pieces like this. Somehow, he managed to make them all unique. Every last one of them offers a visual treat.
In this case, as I recall, Bernie was confronted with a particular problem. We had arrived later than planned and discoveed that the light was spectacular but changing fast. It wouldn’t last long enough for him to do a plein air piece, so he made quick sketches while I took photos. Later, back in his studio in Santa Fe, he produced this remarkably luminous painting.
“Late Light at Grand Canyon” is one of my all-time favorites among Bernie’s many paintings. I’m pleased to offer gorgeous, good-size prints of it here.
