Rocky Mountain Spring

MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS’ FINE OIL PAINTING “ROCKY MOUNTAIN SPRING”:

“Rocky Mountain Spring” packs some serious visual punch. Snow lingers on the Rocky Mountains. The Snake River winds through a marsh in the valley that it carved eons ago. Bright wildflowers and native trees, both evergreen and deciduous, are at their freshest and most beautiful. Blue sky and purple peaks enhance the other gorgeous shades of nature. And a rustic road leads one on to further adventures.

Bernie ably captured it from a sweet higher-up-on-the-trail perspective. Of all his many paintings, this is one of my personal favorites. I was there when he painted the watercolor field study that led to this fine oil painting. I still love both the area and the painting.

This is a different view of the road to the ghost town of Gothic near Crested Butte, Colorado, which we visited repeatedly and he painted in both oil, “The Road to Gothic,” and watercolor, “The Road to Gothic, watercolor.”
