String Lake at Grand Teton

MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS’ “STRING LAKE AT GRAND TETON” FROM GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK:

String Lake is exactly as it sounds: a long, skinny, shallow stretch of water. Big boats have no place there.

But what you can’t tell from the name alone is the remarkable scenic beauty all along it. Forests hug its edges. Mountains rise straight out of the trees. Canoeists and kayakers add an essential human element and scale to the whole picture. The first time that Bernie and I were there, we rented a canoe and paddled along for a few hours.

The next day, Bernie made this elegantly classic plein air watercolor, which has always been a favorite of mine. We returned to Grand Teton National Park together several times since that initial visit, and the amazing place never lost its appeal.

Excellent custom-made giclée prints on thick matte archival paper are available.
