The Abyss
BERNARD MARKS WROTE ABOUT HIS SPECTACULAR WATERCOLOR PAINTING “THE ABYSS”:
The Abyss Overlook on the Grand Canyon’s South Rim offers awe-inspiring views. From that vantage point, it’s an almost vertical view straight down into the canyon.
I’ve made many paintings from both North and South Rims. I consider “The Abyss” the most breathtaking vista. This painting is one of my best of the Grand Canyon.
I made this plein air watercolor painting right there, while standing — at a reasonably safe distance — on the edge of the abyss.
MARTHA MARKS ADDS:
I’ll vouch for the fact that Bernie made this and his other “from the rim” plein air Grand Canyon paintings while standing as close to the edge as he could tolerate. Despite a lifelong fear of heights, he managed to overcome it repeatedly to produce masterpieces like this.
I’m delighted to offer excellent, good-size giclée prints of this superb painting.
Excellent custom-made giclée prints on thick matte archival paper are available.
