Yellowstone Lake

MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS’ INVITING WATERCOLOR “YELLOWSTONE LAKE” FROM YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK:

Yellowstone Lake is the largest high-elevation lake in North America and also the largest body of water in Yellowstone National Park. It’s quite a spectacular place to visit, especially when you consider that it was created by massive volcanic eruptions thousands of years ago.

During our various visits, Bernie and I explored Yellowstone from one end to another, north to south and east to west. We stayed at both Old Faithful Inn and Snow Lodge. And dined at the classic Lake Hotel. Also camped in two spots: Fishing Bridge Campground on the north side of Yellowstone Lake and in Grant Village Campground alongside its famous “West Thumb.” Not only did we experience geyser eruptions but also bubbling “chocolate pots” and boiling-hot acidic pools.

Perhaps most memorable of all, we reveled in elk mothers and calves on the Yellowstone River, bison jams on the roads, and multiple sightings — at a very safe distance — of grizzly bears and their cubs.

And yes… between us we painted and photographed all over the spectacular place.

NOTE: This is one of the very few finished paintings that Bernie did not sign. I suspect he wrapped it up, left the scene, and never realized it wasn’t signed. I will provide a statement of authenticity to any buyer of this print who requests it.
