A Quiet Place

MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS’ SERENE PAINTING “A QUIET PLACE” FROM THE SANGRE DE CRISTO MOUNTAINS:

Let me start by saying… I have no idea where or when Bernie discovered and painted this beautiful scene. And it doesn’t matter. What does matter is how he felt about it, which he told us by the name he gave it.

I do suspect, however, that it’s a specific, peaceful place that he knew about in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains that loom above Santa Fe. He painted it several times. You’ll find another version here: “Peaceful Stream.”

This looks like the kind of place where Bernie would have enjoyed painting for the sheer pleasure of it. It makes me happy just looking at it, because I’m sure he was happy as he painted it.

Excellent custom-made giclée prints on thick matte archival paper are available.
