Riding a Country Road
MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS’ PASTORAL SCENE, “RIDING A COUNTRY ROAD”:
In September 2004, as part of a three-week exploratory trip, Bernie and I rented a cabin for a week in a rural part of Colorado. He used it as a base of operations for his painting. I was happy to read, relax, and hunt migrating birds with my camera.
One day, Bernie returned to the cabin with a rough plein air watercolor of this pastoral scene, plus a lot of photos. Back in his studio in Santa Fe, he turned those into this larger finished painting. We kept it, well protected in a portfolio, as a souvenir of our enjoyable getaway. It’s never been offered for sale until now.
BERNIE MADE 9 WATERCOLORS FROM THAT ONE MEMORABLE TRIP: “Above the Uncompahgre,” “Aspen Shadows,” “Morning in Ouray,” “Mountain Color,” “Mountain Stream in Fall,” “Riding a Country Road,” “Snowy Tracks,” “Winter Rapids,” and “Vanishing Point in Colorado.“
