Sleepy Sheep

MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS’ “SLEEPY SHEEP” IN WISCONSIN:

Throughout the ’70s and early ’80s, Bernie and I spent weekends exploring southern Wisconsin, which was an easy drive from our northern Illinois home. We learned to ski there too, but it was summertime when we most loved rambling around the country roads.

“Sleepy Sheep” dates from that time. To me, it encapsulates everything we enjoyed about Wisconsin: great old trees, winsome farm animals, and classic rural landscapes. We framed this piece and enjoyed it in our home for years. Recently, I “liberated” it from that dated frame and had it professionally photographed. So now I can offer both the unframed original and large, top-quality giclée photos.

This “sheepy” watercolor would be perfect in a child’s bedroom.

I know that Bernie would be thrilled to see “Sleepy Sheep” and its Wisconsin companions — “Village in Winter,” “Winter Whites,” and “Gathering Outside the Church” — on this website… a technology that neither one of us could have dreamed of at the time he painted them.
