Snow in the Canyon
MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS’ YOU-ARE-THERE WATERCOLOR PAINTING “SNOW IN THE CANYON”
This compelling piece is the result of a wintertime visit to Grand Canyon National Park that Bernie made with his plein air painting group, probably in 2003 or 2004.
Count on him to come through whenever he found the marvelous combination of two things: the Grand Canyon and snow. He painted them together more times than I can remember, and almost every one of those pieces promptly sold from the various galleries that represented him.
I wish I had reproduction-quality photos of all the snow-and-canyon watercolors he painted, so I could offer more of them here. But still, on this site, in addition to the piece shown here, you’ll find these superb examples of wintertime at the Grand Canyon, done in other media:
- “Snow on the Rim” (acrylic)
- “A Touch of Winter” (oil)
- “Winter Morning at Yavapai Point“ (oil)
Excellent custom-made giclée prints on thick matte archival paper are available.
