Two Moose in the Tetons

BERNARD MARKS WROTE ABOUT HIS CLEVER WATERCOLOR PAINTING “TWO MOOSE IN THE TETONS”:

“Two Moose in the Tetons” is one of the wildlife paintings that I did at Grand Teton National Park in northwestern Wyoming. This gorgeous place encompasses the major peaks of the Teton Range, pristine lakes, wetlands, and the Snake River. Human history in the area dates back 11,000 years or more. Dozens of species of animals roam the area, including elk, buffalo and moose like the two shown in this painting.

“Two Moose in the Tetons” is based on my quick sketches and photos taken by my wife, wildlife photographer Martha Marks.

MARTHA MARKS ADDS:

For over twenty years, Bernie and I prowled the great national parks and national wildlife refuges of the American West. No better places existed for the things we each loved to do.

Since I was always the one hauling the camera gear designed for “shooting” wildlife, he let me handle that angle while he focused on the settings and overall appearance of the creatures. Then, back in his studio at home, combining our two sets of raw materials, he worked his magic on the subject.

In all, this site presents seven paintings where Bernie used my photos to provide the details that he either couldn’t safely get close enough to see or didn’t have time to paint on site.
