Autumn Song
BERNARD MARKS WROTE ABOUT HIS DRAMATIC SQUARE PAINTING “AUTUMN SONG”:
This mountain pass through the Colorado Rockies offered me a unique perspective. I stood on a high road and looked down on the tops of a mass of aspens, all glowing with autumn color. In contrast were deciduous trees and pines in various shades of green. In the distance, another pass opened a view to snow-clad slopes.
“Autumn Song” was a Rocky Mountain scene begging to be painted, so I did.
MARTHA MARKS ADDS: Bernie and I made many more trips into the Colorado Rockies, as well as the Rockies in New Mexico and Wyoming. He painted gorgeous pieces on every one of those trips. But the perspective in “Autumn Song” is unique among all his many paintings of those majestic mountains. It’s long been a personal favorite of mine.
