Afternoon at Zion Lodge
MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS’ “AFTERNOON AT ZION LODGE” IN ZION NATIONAL PARK:
Bernie and I visited Zion National Park many times. At first, we stayed in a hotel in Springdale, Utah, just outside the park’s front gate. Twice we camped inside the park. We also camped at nearby Sand Hollow State Park. We even camped at a nearby commercial RV park.
But without a doubt, our most memorable experience there was a lovely spring week in 2007 when we stayed at Zion Lodge inside the park. Bernie made two watercolors right at the lodge itself, this one and the other simply called “Zion Lodge.” Both are featured on this website.
“Afternoon at Zion Lodge” perfectly captures what we experienced throughout that very special week. It’s one of only two of Bernie’s original paintings of Zion that we chose to frame and hang in our home. We’ve enjoyed it all these years, and now I’m happy to give some other lucky family to do the same.
