Waterfall Near Emerald Pools

MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS’ “WATERFALL NEAR EMERALD POOLS”:

The many trails in Zion National Park offer a variety of natural attractions and levels of difficulty. The end point for several of them is an area called Emerald Pools. Along the way, the hiker encounters monoliths like the famous Great White Throne. There’s water, too, in the form of the Virgin River, smaller tributaries, waterfalls, and the green pools that everybody aims to reach.

We discovered this scene in the late spring of 2005, when melting snow sent water rushing through the canyons. Bernie and I were on a crowded trail that passed almost directly under this waterfall.

It wasn’t a great spot to make a plein air painting, but we got photos that Bernie later turned into this exquisite watercolor. It sold fast from a gallery in St. George, Utah. Fortunately, we have a fine digital photo of it so I can offer excellent giclée prints here.

This website offers 13 of Bernie’s original paintings and/or giclée prints of Zion National Park: “Afternoon at Zion Lodge,” “Along Pa’rus Trail,” “Colors and Contours of Zion,” Entering Zion,Kolob Perspective,Nearing Zion,” “Shuntavi Butte,” “Waterfall Near Emerald Pools, Winter Reflections,” “Virgin River in Winter,” “Virgin River,” “Zion Lodge,” and “Zion Meadow.”

Excellent custom-made giclée prints on thick matte archival paper are available.
