Nearing Zion
MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS’ GLOWING WATERCOLOR “NEARING ZION” FROM ZION NATIONAL PARK:
“Nearing Zion” is a large, brilliantly colored studio watercolor from southern Utah. Bernie painted it from our photos and a previous plein air study that he did alongside one of the major roads leading to Zion National Park in 2004.
Unlike most of his watercolors, Bernie kept this beautiful original painting in his files. I’m pleased now to be able to offer it, as well as prints of it.
I remember this scene very well, because we passed it several times. I was there as he painted the original version of it. It’s one of many spectacular spots that we loved and repeatedly visited in southern Utah.
