Oak Street Beach
an “Early Bernie” watercolor = 25% discount
MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS’ VINTAGE “OAK STREET BEACH”:
Here’s another of the watercolors that Bernie painted sometime in the period between 1970 and 2000. (Not coincidentally, we lived in Chicago’s northern ‘burbs from 1969 to 2002.)
“Oak Street Beach” is Chicago’s super-popular, go-to place in summer. That’s the very edge of Lake Michigan on the right (facing east) and part of the Chicago skyline on the left (facing west). Fabulous Lake Shore Drive runs between them, even if you can’t see it in this painting.
Many of these Chicago-focused watercolors were sold in a Santa Fe gallery after we moved there. Lots of Chicagoans visit Santa Fe. Where else would they go to buy paintings of their home town?
As a result, I have none of the “Early Bernie” originals from Chicago and only the few digital photos listed below, which are good enough to reproduce as prints.
These come with our “Early Bernie” 25% discount: Horse Carriage in Chicago #1, Horse Carriage in Chicago #2, Horse Carriage in Chicago #3, Oak Street Beach, Water Tower in Chicago, and Water Tower and 7Up Truck.
