Red Sky
MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS’ VIVID PANORAMIC WATERCOLOR “RED SKY”:
This was the west-facing view from our house atop a hill northwest of Santa Fe. Every evening, in every kind of weather, we enjoyed watching the sunsets or storms play out over the Jemez Mountains. Often we saw them both at the same time.
On this particular evening, it was a typical stunningly beautiful Jemez Mountains sunset, filled with brilliant red, yellow, and blue tones.
“Red Sky” and “Sunset Rain” are the only sunsets Bernie ever painted as panoramic watercolors. They’re also the only ones he chose to keep, rather than selling through a gallery. He had them professionally framed as a set, and that’s how we have enjoyed them over the years. I will only sell them now as a set.
