Sunset Rain
MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS’ LUMINOUS PANORAMIC WATERCOLOR “SUNSET RAIN”:
This was the west-facing view from our house atop a hill northwest of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Every evening, in every kind of weather, we enjoyed watching the sunsets or storms play out over the Jemez Mountains. Often we enjoyed both at the same time, as in this painting.
“Sunset Rain” and “Red Sky” are the only sunsets Bernie ever painted as panoramic watercolors. They’re also the only ones he chose to keep, rather than selling them through a gallery. He had them professionally framed as a set, and that’s how we have enjoyed them over the years. I will only sell them now as a set.
