Virgin River in Winter
MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS’ STRIKING “VIRGIN RIVER IN WINTER” FROM ZION NATIONAL PARK:
“Virgin River in Winter” shows a tributary of the Colorado, about 162 miles long, that flows through Zion National Park in southern Utah and ends at Lake Mead in Nevada. It passes through a varied landscape, so for this painting Bernie chose a stretch outside the park where the brilliant red rocks and bright evergreens contrasted with a recent snowfall.
This original piece, long one of our favorites, recently went to the home of another fan of southwestern landscapes. Luckily, others can still enjoy it as top-quality giclée prints.
Over the years, as Bernie and I explored that area, he painted the Virgin River many times. His other favorite of this subject is a framed watercolor that he simply called “Virgin River.” That beloved piece has been hanging in our home for years, but I’m offering it for sale here for the first time,
