Chama River In Fall

MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS’ COLORFUL “CHAMA RIVER IN FALL” FROM GEORGIA O’KEEFFE COUNTRY:

Bernie painted northern New Mexico’s Chama River every chance he could. It’s an especially stunning place in the fall, so of course he produced plenty of paintings from that time. Somehow, he always found ways to make each one unique and special.

In this case, I want to point out something that he took great pride in doing. He skillfully guides the viewer’s eye through the painting. If you focus on the alternating angles that start in several parts of the painting, you’ll see that one leads you to another. And that one leads you to another. Which then leads to another, and so on. Start at any point and you’ll feel Bernie leading your eyes around the painting.

In total, this website offers four of Bernie’s oils and acrylics of the same “Georgia O’Keeffe Country”: Above Abiquiu Lake,” “Ghost Ranch Landmarks,” Morning Light on Abiquiu Lake and Pedernal,” and Sunset Over Abiquiu Lake.

His watercolors of the same area are: “Abiquiu Lake and Pedernal,” Cottonwood by the Chama River,“Chama River in Fall,” Plaza Blanca, Rio Chama Overlook” and “The Chama River.

NOTE: Abiquiu is pronounced ah-bih-cue.
