MARTHA MARKS COMMENTS ON BERNARD MARKS’ BIRDS-EYE-VIEW WATERCOLOR “INDIAN MARKET SEEN FROM ABOVE”:
Bernie found a very special perch to make the photos that he later incorporated into this intriguing bird’s eye view watercolor. He exercised his artistic license in pushing the perspective a wee bit, so some may have a hard time figuring out where he was standing. But there’s really no great mystery here. Santa Fe residents will know instantly the precise spot where he shot those pics. Others can have the fun of figuring it out.
As usual, he found new and special elements to incorporate into this painting. He was creative, not to mention wonderfully talented. Bernie’s figures always look real enough to walk off the paper. Maybe that’s because he sought out real people doing real things in real places. You can’t fake this kind of thing, and Bernie never tried to fake it.
